The African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) is a continental educational organization comprising African universities and other higher education institutions, which are committed to expanding access to quality education and training through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) including e-Learning. It is a unifying body of distance education providers and practitioners in Africa.

The mandate of the ACDE, as a unifying body of ODL providers in Africa, is primarily to promote research, policy and quality in open and distance learning to increase access to education and training in Africa. They do this by building capacity, fostering collaboration and partnership, and advocacy.

The vision of ACDE is to become a major player in the promotion and advocacy for ODL including e-Learning.

Course Overview
COL developed this course to assist teachers of TVET institutes to incorporate ICT into their courses, moving towards a blended learning model, which integrates online digital resources with classroom teaching. The course is designed to be offered with a facilitator supporting cohorts of learners. However, individuals may find it helpful to work through the course to build their own understanding of blended learning. The course is designed to be delivered over eight weeks, with participants needing 3-4 hours per week to participate in the course discussions and activities, and time to develop their own online course content.

COL developed this open course to assist teachers of TVET institutes who are planning, or currently delivering, an online course, to extend their skills in being an online facilitator.
The course aims to help TVET educators establish or improve their own online or blended teaching practices and develop a working understanding of successful online teaching strategies.
It is designed to be offered with a facilitator supporting cohorts of learners.
However, individuals may find it helpful to work through the course to build their own understanding of online facilitation. The course is designed to be delivered over six weeks, with participants needing 2-3 hours per week to participate in the course discussions and activities.
